I have some exciting news to share regarding Rubicon’s leadership. Michael A. Nutter, the former Mayor of Philadelphia who has drawn national acclaim for his leadership in so many areas, is joining Rubicon’s Board of Directors.
Mayor Nutter brings to our team first-hand experience working with city governments to solve the critical challenges of waste, recycling, and quality of life issues now facing our nation.
Mayor Nutter is not new to Rubicon and our mission to end waste, in all its forms. He has been on our team the past two years as an Advisory Board Member, leading valuable efforts to help grow our RUBICONSmartCity(™) business. In that role he has been an effective advocate for us in municipalities across the country. He has worked tirelessly to support our teams, and expanded his role to benefit other business units within the company. He has been an invaluable advisor on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues and a crucial voice for social justice awareness.
Mayor Nutter served as the 98th Mayor of Philadelphia, the sixth largest city in America. His innovative vision and deep knowledge of how businesses and governments can collaborate served him well in dealing with issues related to the environment and sustainability. He created the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability during his first of two terms and led the development of the city’s comprehensive sustainability plan, Greenworks Philadelphia. Mayor Nutter also served as President of the United States Conference of Mayors (2012-2013), and co-founder, and now Advisory Board Member, of the African American Mayors Association.
Among his many current affiliations, Mayor Nutter is a Professor of Practice at Columbia University’s School of International & Public Affairs, an Executive Fellow at the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania, a Senior Advisor at Bloomberg Philanthropy’s What Works Cities Initiative, and a Non-Resident Visiting Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics.
I am honored and humbled to work alongside Mayor Nutter and appreciate the passion, knowledge and commitment he brings to our efforts. Please join me in welcoming this extraordinary and accomplished individual to our Board.
